Small-Space Sofa Guide: How to Choose a Couch for an Apartment
In a small living room, the space beside the couch matters almost as much as the couch itself. You still need to get to the kitchen, open a drawer, and put down a drink without moving the furniture each time.
Choose the shape around those everyday uses before deciding how much seating to add.
Decide where you want to sit
Think about a normal evening. If you like putting your feet up, a chaise may earn its floor space. If people usually sit facing one another, keep room for a separate chair instead of filling the whole corner.
Our 96-inch L-shaped couch combines regular seating with a chaise. Its 96-inch width and maximum 60.2-inch depth give you an outline to try in the room. Mark the actual orientation so you can see where the chaise will end.
Put your current table alongside that outline. Walk past it with someone sitting in the nearest chair. The arrangement should work while the room is being used, not just while every seat is empty.
Let a few pieces do their jobs
A side table within reach may serve you better than a large coffee table that fills the remaining floor. Keep the lamp you use, and give blankets a place near the couch if you reach for them each night.
Wait on the extras. Once the couch is in place, you'll notice where a cup needs to go or which corner needs light. Those are useful reasons to add something.
Corduroy brings visible texture even when the room has only a few pieces. With the 96-inch model, individually pocketed coils and high-density foam provide cushioning with support beneath the upholstery.
Plan the route upstairs
Measure the entrance and any turns between the delivery point and your room. Compare them with the exact package information, and arrange help for carrying if you need it. Ask the building about elevator bookings before delivery day.
The sectional measuring guide takes you through that route. Then return to your room plan and check the passage you'll use most often. Keep that part of the floor clear before finding room for another accessory.
